| Introduction |
Susan Do you know that it's Chanukah
That's right, The Festival of Lights
Every year Jews retell the story of
Judah Maccabee, his brothers and
their brave band of men.
Let me tell you the story
Susan.
Over 2,000 years ago, they drove
the Syrians who wanted to destroy
them out of Israel.
They were so sad when they
found their temple destroyed.
All the Jews worked day and night
to clean their house of worship, but
when they went to kindle the
eternal light, they found that there
was only one tiny flask of oil.
“What shall we do?” they cried.
There is only enough for one day.
They needed to make more oil
for the eternal light before it went out.
Susan,
do you know what happened?
A miracle! From one tiny
flask of oil, the light burned
for eight whole days and nights.
And that's the story of Chanukah. |
| Chorus 1 |
Eight little candles burning bright
Tonight is Chanukah
Susan gets a gift each night
Tonight is Chanukah
Watch the dreidel spinning
On the tables they go round
Wonder who'll be winning
Laughing when they spin
And hit the ground |
| Verse 1 |
Susan guess what's cooking
in the kitchen.
Delicious potato pancakes
Um, let's sing about that
Potato latkes crisp and sweet
Tonight is Chanukah
Chocolate money good to eat
Tonight is Chanukah
Susan sing and smile
Shamus in your hand
Sing the ancient blessings
Gathered around the menorah
we all stand |
| Chorus 2 |
Chanukah, My Chanukah
Chanukah, The Festival of Lights
Susan It's Chanukah
Menorah and eight candles shining bright
Chanukah, My Chanukah
Chanukah, The Festival of Lights
Susan It's Chanukah
Let's all light one candle for each night |
